Pinoy Pride 32: Duel in Dubai
07-10-2015
UAE: SLS Production supplied its audiovisual services for the recent Pinoy Pride 32: Dual in Dubai 2 boxing event which took place in the Zabeel Halls of the Dubai World Trade Centre. While this was the second time the contest had been held in Dubai, it was the first time that SLS had been involved.

One of the first challenges SLS needed to overcome was solving a problem from the previous year. The low ceiling height of the venue meant that the overhead lights had been too close to the ring for the first edition of the event, making it too hot for the competitors. The solution was to make sure we rigged all our points only on the existing beams and completely avoided bridles, explained SLS Production’s senior manager – operations, Neville Lobo. We also rigged the 36 Arri 2K Fresnels on the top tube of the truss to gain extra height.

All this greatly reduced the heat in the ring while still providing bright and even illumination, he continued. The lighting was further enhanced by Clay Paky moving fixtures and Showtec LED fixtures all controlled by a Grand MA console.

The audio side of the project provided an entirely different challenge. As this was being televised live, our main priority was ensuring that the fixed camera shots looked good and were free of any obstructions. This meant no line arrays hanging from the main grid and no speakers on the floor around the ring, explains Mr Lobo. The solution was to rig 10 Nexo PS15 speakers on the main grid to cover the areas around the ring. The rest of the venue was covered by 20 JBL Vertec VT-4888 line array speakers supported by 12 VT-4880A subwoofers.

The audio system was mixed using a Yamaha LS9 console, while the mic package consisted of six Shure URD4 handheld units.

Completing the audiovisual setup was 70 sq-m of LED screens. All visual support was via our Absen A6 6mm LED screens, recalled Mr Lobo. There were four 5m x 3m live feed screens and an entrance arch that played a specially created video loop during the event and displayed the main logo during fighter entrances.

This visual content was supported by an Analog Way Pulse 300 switcher and a Barco Matrix 8*8 DVI switcher.

The event was a big success and this was mainly due to the teamwork of everyone involved, concluded Mr Lobo. The client and the venue were extremely cooperative and flexible as were the TV production team.
